FAQs: Residential

What equipment is required by end users to use the iVox service?

To use an existing analogue phone or cordless phone, all that is required is an ATA (analogue telephone adapter).

Alternatively customers can opt for a new IP Telephone.

ATA's or IP Phones will need to be compatible with the SIP protocol.

Will existing hardware (i.e. modems, routers) work with the iVox network?

Generally this hardware is compatible with the iVox network. The existing router or internet gateway will need to allow the ATA or IP Phone to gain access to the internet.

Can iVox provide equipment for use with its service?

Yes. iVox has relationships with multiple equipment vendors and can supply compatible phones and gateways to Service Providers for resale.

Can Service Providers make use of their existing relationships with hardware providers?

Yes. The only restrictions are that equipment is SIP compatible and that it is properly configured for the iVox network. However, if in doubt, iVox will work with its Service Provider partners to determine suitability of equipment.

Can end users use a "Softphone" with the iVox service instead of a handset?

Yes. Most SIP softphones are compatible with the iVox service.

Does an end users' computer need to be switched on when using an iVox service?

No, however the internet Gateway and broadband connection must still be active to enable the connection to iVox.

Can end users use both computer and phone at the same time?

Yes. iVox recommends Gateways that give priority to the voice traffic.

Can an iVox Gateway or ATA be used with another service provider?

Yes, provided it is configured properly.
